Ahead of Lollapalooza, Chicagoans might be able to experience something truly spectacular… once again. Chicago saw a mesmerizing display of the Northern Lights a couple of months ago, which we thought was unheard of. However, it just shows that you don’t need to travel across the world for something phenomenal to happen; it can happen close to home. Luckily for us, we might see it again this week.
The NOAA’s Storm Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) issued a geomagnetic storm watch through this Wednesday, alerting of a potential G3 (strong) solar storm. This level of geomagnetic storm can make the Northern Lights visible across the northeastern, upper Midwest, and northern United States.
The conditions must be flawless for the show to take place. Unfortunately, a succession of showers and thunderstorms is forecasted to impact Chicago. Consequently, the show might be entirely obscured by cloud cover.
