A $7 billion redevelopment project, known as the 1901 Project, officially began this month with the goal of transforming the area surrounding the United Center on the Near West Side.
This initiative will redevelop 55 acres of surface parking lots around the home of the Chicago Bulls and Blackhawks.

The plans include constructing a music hall, hotels, green spaces, retail shops, restaurants, and a new stop on the CTA Pink Line. Furthermore, the project will create 9,500 new residential units, with 1,900 of those designated as affordable housing, as reported by WTTW.
Chicago Bulls President and CEO Michael Reinsdorf said:
As we started thinking about the future of this campus, one thing became clear to us.
We didn’t want to create just an entertainment district. We wanted to add to the neighborhood that already exists here.
The first phase of development will feature a 6,000-seat music hall, a 233-room hotel, retail and dining spaces, and two parking garages, with an expected completion date in spring 2028.
