One thing we can all agree on is that living in Chicago provides unprecedented access to the lakefront—it’s pretty great, if you ask us. However, if you’re driving there, you might notice some changes.
According to NBC Chicago, automatic gates have been installed at ten beaches. While paying to park at the beach isn’t new, these gates mark a renewed effort to enforce parking fees.

The park district has stated that it informed local park advisory councils and aldermen about the changes prior to implementation, and signage has been posted at each affected lot. Importantly, parking rates have not increased as a result of these upgrades.”
Under the new policy, drivers will receive a 15-minute grace period before charges begin. The maximum parking fee is around $24. These fees are expected to generate $9.4 million in revenue for the Chicago Park District this year.
